This flair and style are apparent throughout the property: winning the architect a coveted design award. They comprise of a generously proportioned dual-aspect study with fitted cupboards, bookshelves and desk and a door leading to the dining/sitting room. The kitchen/breakfast room is generously proportioned, has floor to ceiling windows to one side and a door leading to the terrace. There is a good range of cupboards and units, and a large number of appliances, including a single oven, large Eurocave wine fridge, an oven with hob over, Miele dishwasher and Amana fridge/freezer. Double doors lead to the dining/sitting room which enjoy five sets of full height windows and take advantage of the lovely views of the garden, whilst a door gives access to it. There is a log burning stove and fitted shelves to one side. The ground floor accommodation is completed by a cloakroom utility area off the hallway. To the first floor- the principal bedroom is of generous proportions, is dual aspact and has fitted wardrobes. There are two further double bedrooms and a single bedroom. The first floor is completed by a recently updated bathroom and a separate shower room. Little Barn is a charming former stable house built in the 1800s which now provides excellent self contained accommodation. The sitting/dining room has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams and a kitchen to one side. Doors opening onto a large balcony with views of the garden and village beyond. There is also a bathroom on this floor, whilst stairs to the lower ground floor lead to double and single bedrooms respectively and a door giving access to the garden. The Courtyard at Ewelme was designed by the renowned architect Ivor Smith for his own family. The site is an orchard on the north side of the village street where the houses form a continuous edge. The Courtyard continues the character of the street and patter of its neighbours. The house has a square plan with its diagonal facing due south to make the most of the view. Following the precedent of Aalto's apartments at Neue Vahr, the walls on the north-east and north-west sides are solid to protect from the cold and noise, whilst in contrast the facades to the south-east and south-west are more open towards the sun and view. The sun lights the house in different ways at different times of the year. The ground floor is arranged so the living room enjoys the sun throughout the day, the dining kitchen benefits in the morning and the study in the evening. Although these rooms have openness to the garden, the solidity of the columns gives a sense of enclosure. When required, the kitchen, living room and study can be shut off as separate rooms but at other times double floor from floor to ceiling give a more open plan. A great space for entertaining. On the first floor the main bedroom is at the south corner with two single rooms on each side; these have removable partitions between them so that the house can be changed from five bedrooms to four or three. The house is organised on a tartan grid where the overall square is divided into spaces that are square, square and a half or double square, a discipline that gives a consistent scale to the whole. The narrow bands of the grid accommodate the columns, the fireplace, book
