A unique, entrancing duplex-type apartment, situated in an interwar building on Maria Rosetti Street, close to Rosetti Square and University Square. Remarkable for its elegance and individuality, situated in a representative modern building, built after Marcel Maller’s creation, the apartment has a rich and completely documented history. It belonged to the Saraga family, where Iancu Saraga lived, a renowned editor and, among others, the owner of the ‘’Aux Galeries Lafayette’’ store, Bucharest branch, known nowadays as ‘’Victoria’’ store. The apartment is distinguished by three special elements: quality, space and originality. In love with beauty and authenticity, the actual owner kept and carefully restored all the valuable elements: the solid wood doors with walnut veneer (one of them has a curved shape), the solid wood flooring (oak and walnut) and the functional fireplaces with splendid wrought iron elements. Triple glazed windows have been added, a water purification and softening system, a 8kW power generator with automatic start, video surveillance system and individual water and electricity supply. Marcel Maller, the architect of the building, was a strong personality and one of the architects who modelled and implemented the modernist style in Bucharest. His distinguished works speak of a change in the mentality of Bucharest society in the 1930s, a new way of life that had only one purpose: comfort. Open to innovation, Maller had his own architectural vocabulary that he used inside and outside his compositions, well-proportioned stylistic buildings. This is the reason why in 1932, Iancu Saraga, the owner of the biggest publishing company in Romania at that time, Saraga Brothers, was convinced that the architect Marcel Maller will build on Maria Rosetti Street a building that would talk about the new quo status , about progress, a residential building for the Saraga family and other well-known personalities of the time. The Saraga apartment is located on the last two floors (the 4th and 5th) and is different from the other apartments. The first floor (217 sqm) has an impressive living area (93 sqm), well-lit rooms, large glazed spaces and a versatile design. Currently, three open rooms, elegantly individualized, are used as a living room, a dining room and a home cinema area. Also, on the same level there is a sleeping area that includes 2 bedrooms, one with a private bathroom, a kitchen with generous storage space, another bathroom and a toilet. The second floor, with a total surface of 110 sqm, includes an impressive open terrace, which covers an area of 49 sqm, overlooking the I. L. Caragiale House and the ‘’Gradina Icoanei’’ Park. The 5th floor has a bathroom and a technical room, with its own 43kW gas central heating unit. There are plenty of parking lots in front of the building. The location is ultra-central, exceptional, at equal distance between the two main metro stations, University and Romana Square, just 200 meters from the Gradina Icoanei Park and Bulandra Theater, 10 minutes from the Romanian Athenaeum , the Royal Palace, the National Theater and the Old Center.
