Montecreto (800m s.the.m.)。

THE VILLAGE, THE VILLA, THE BELL TOWER AND LOTS OF LAND
MONTECRETO...and to describe this beautiful farmhouse what could be better than using the story that the owner gave me?
Enjoy the reading!
"To talk about the Borgo di Strettara we must start from a 1584 charter in which for the first time a road is named that from Cutigliano (Gr.Duchy of Tuscany) passing through Fiumalbo, Pievepelago, Riolunato and Strettara made it possible to reach the lands of the Montecuccoli in Frignano. The route passed in the middle of our village and is still passable on foot, by bicycle and on horseback.
The oldest building in the village dates back to the end of the 1700s and stood on this ancient cart track that from the Scoltenna stream (550 m.s.the.m.) went up and allowed, then, the passage to men, animals (cattle, mules, flocks etc.)) and wagons from the municipalities of the upper Modena and Tuscan Apennines and headed for Frignano.
Going up from the Ponte dei Leoni, rebuilt in stone at the beginning of the 1700s on pre-existing wooden bridges, the first hamlet you met was that of Casa Mucci, just beyond the Digano house, then the Magnani, Garrada and Bagatti houses up to Valdalbero; from there, passing through Vaglio, one reached, as now, Lama Mocogno and the Modena area.
In our village the imposing manor house, built in the first half of the 19th century, dominates the valley below with the hydroelectric plant, the Scoltenna and all dominated by the Parish Church from a beautiful hill, full of centuries-old oaks on the sunniest side. of Montecreto (800m s.the.m.).
The village consists of an older stone building, built on several levels (late 1700s) on a rocky spur, completed and enlarged in the mid-1800s (1854) as reported on the door jamb on the lower yard.
At the end of the first half of the 19th century it was built by the owner, notary in Lama M., the splendid manor house which, with the village, is located in the central point of the fund consisting of 35 hectares of which 13/14 of cultivated fields and 22 consist of coppice.
A detail that does not escape the visitors of the village is the presence of a stone bell tower with four lights, behind the main house, used since the end of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th century to signal to the inhabitants of the two sides of the Scoltenna the unfolding of celebrations in a small church dedicated to the Madonna del Ponte about 450 meters from the village built around 1713 (don Apollonio Zanelli) and no longer present today.
The most recent construction (1950) is the large barn (for that time) in front of which a wide widening of the cart track, in the 1900s, allowed the vans of the Montecreto Dairy to come and collect the milk morning and evening.
In the 1960s, the road from Lama Mocogno to the Ponte dei Leoni was finally traced and paved and completed; now this artery allows, remaining at low altitudes, to reduce the mileage and transit times between the medium-high Modena Apennines (Montecreto, Sestola, Fanano, Riolunato, Pievepelago and Fiumalbo) and the Tuscan one (Cutigliano, S.Marcello Pistoiese etc.).
The construction of the Strettara Tunnel (1,200 m.) which starts 200 meters beyond the bridge and the new connection Strettara-Montecreto via the ring road (2 km) today make connections with Tuscany, Modena and Bologna extremely fast, bringing great interest to areas to be rediscovered."
