The mouldings, built-in breakfront and ornate mantels are all from Driwood Moldings, Florence, SC. These craftsmen provide architectural embellishments for many of the finest homes in America and Europe. Their work, in a time honoured tradition is characteristic of many historic homes.
Entering the foyer is the graceful spiral staircase from Montgomery Woodworks. It not only provides smooth access to the second level (there is a rear staircase) but is an impressive backdrop for the elegant foyer Christmas tree.
The living room with 22' ceiling and french doors, flows seamlessly onto the brick patio and courtyard. Each of the 4 sets of double french doors have embrashed shutters which dock into a wall cavity. While open, appearing as part of the raised panel threshold, they are visually unobtrusive. This clever architectural detail used in the 18th and 19th centuries is not common in today's architecture, since it requires a wall of exceptional thickness. At night, these shutters can be folded to provide privacy and insulation. The living rooms's wood burning (with gas starter) fireplace is of Carrera marble and the chandelier is Baccarat crystal (with some replacements).
The master bedroom on the main level has tall windows with plantation shutters and lake view. The two full “his and her” master bathrooms have heated floors. The lady’s bath has marble floors, counters and tub surround for the cast-iron whirlpool bath.
The main level guest wing contains a powder room, two bedrooms and a bath. The upstairs has two bedrooms and two full baths, making it perfect for weekend house parties. One upstairs bath features its own hot water heater and stained glass window dating from the early 1900s.
The family room/library contains a wood burning fireplace (with gas starter), brick hearth, bay window with lake view and french door onto the terrace. The bookcase, mantle and all wood trim are cherry. All wooden floors here and throughout the house are Red Oak.
The kitchen, with Subzero refrigerator, freezer, large island, and custom hand painted tiles can easily transform into a lovely entertaining space. Double french doors from the kitchen open onto a delightful sun-porch with sunrise views of the lake. The floor is constructed of solid Waccamaw brick.
The laundry room has a greenhouse window, washer/dryer and custom hand painted tiles. Additionally, there is a built-in ironing board and exceptional storage capacity in the lovely European cabinets. For convenience, the utility room is located near the garage door and has direct access into the gentleman's master bath.
