GREENHALL LODGE, TINAHELY, COUNTY WICKLOW, IRELAND
AN ELEGANT AND ATTRACTIVE VICTORIAN LODGE
Accommodation extends to some 1,998 square feet or 185.6 square metres and includes 4 reception rooms, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The gardens are magical with frontage onto the river Derry and adjacent to ancient oak woods with walking. Frontage (with fishing) onto River Derry.
Idyllically positioned within magical gardens on the banks of the river Derry, adjacent to ancient oak woods within scenic county Wicklow. Greenhall Lodge was built as a hunting lodge for Earl Fitzwilliam in the late 19th Century. Set above the banks of the river Derry the lodge enjoys an extremely picturesque position and has been extended to provide a deceptive 1,998 square feet or 185.6 square metres of accommodation. Comprehensively restored in recent years but with great cognizance to the original Victorian heritage the lodge now presents an attractive home with period character and incorporating modern comfort.
Set within 1.33 acres or 0.54 hectares there are elevated views over the gardens to the river below. A magnificent 18th century granite stone bridge arching high over the river provides a delightful backdrop. Lying immediately across the river are the ancient oaks within Tomnafinogue Woods, where walking trails are enjoyed. The river Derry meanders through the woods and wildlife is abundant with sightings of the elusive great spotted woodpecker, along with kingfishers, frogs, brown trout and deer.
Whilst small in scale the accommodation within Greenhall Lodge is charming and surprisingly spacious, providing far more utilisable space than is evident from the exterior. An entrance porch leads into the bow-ended family room. A study, stair hall with a timber winding staircase to the first floor leads, a dining room, kitchen, sunroom, boot room and guest bedroom with en-suite bathroom complete the ground floor accommodation. Upstairs the master bedroom suite has a generous bathroom, a dressing room and a shower room. A second bedroom and a family bathroom complete the first floor accommodation.
The lodge and gardens easily link and richly complement one another. A south facing patio terrace off the sun room is well sheltered to capture sunshine on clement days. The gardens are delightful with gravelled paths linking areas of lawns and interspersed with numerous mature trees and shrubs, which provide a kaleidoscope of colour throughout the year. A beautiful gazebo is ideal for alfresco dining and the cascading river provides a great sense of tranquillity.
Greenhall Lodge is positioned about a 6 minute drive from the attractive villages of Shillelagh and Tinahely, each providing useful village amenities, shopping and schooling. County Wicklow is noted for its natural beauty and the local area provides great natural amenity, with leisure pursuits including horse riding, hunting, shooting, golfing and hill walking.
