The 1815 Moses Lukens House is a fine example of a Pennsylvania Federal Farmhouse. The house was constructed in 1815, but the property itself can be traced all the way back to the original Patent from John Penn in the early 18th century. Originally situated on 183 acres in what is now known as Maple Glen, the Moses Lukens farmhouse, bank barn and carriage house are now located on 2.3 acres set back from Welsh Road. The original interior plan of the home remains historically intact with a grand center hall entrance with two large rooms on either side, each interconnecting and opening into the hall itself. The front and matching rear doors are original, including the locks and brass knobs. The staircase, chair rails and window moldings are also original. The beautiful interior doors on the first floor are cherry and pine on the second floor as was the custom of the day. The center hall mural was believed to painted by an itinerant artist for the wealthy Lukens family and is now waiting to be restored (or left as is for you history buffs). Presently, the house has five bedrooms and two and a half baths and seven fireplaces! Take note of the King of Prussia marble fireplace surround in the oversized drawing room, a walk in fireplace in the kitchen and Mercer tile in the mudroom. The mechanicals of the home have been updated. Central air installed on all three floors in 2019, new hot water heater in 2020, updated electric, a new concrete floor in basement and gas service to the house.
