A meticulously and professionally restored Georgian townhouse with south facing walled garden.
No 5 Brock Street is one of the larger and rare whole houses situated on the south side of this attractive street that links the iconic and world-renowned Royal Crescent with The Circus in the hub of classic Georgian Bath. This particular property was a very tired and run-down building that was divided into five flats. It has taken over 12 months to restore and convert back to a whole house. The property is Grade 11 Listed, so it meant working with the planners and listed buildings authority to create a living space that works in this century (with all the modern infrastructure) whilst retaining and restoring the architectural body and integrity of the property.
It is not hard to see and appreciate the quality of work and passion that has gone into creating and restoring this rather splendid family residence. The property, circa 4,700 sq ft, has a typical Georgian layout over six floors, with the exception of the fabulous kitchen, which is now on the ground floor and has French doors opening onto a large balustrade terrace (perfect for outdoor dining). There are steps down to the south-facing walled garden, which is a calm and tranquil setting with an open outlook over the greenery and trees of The Royal Victoria Park.
Close to the city centre, Brock Street links the architectural landmark and iconic Georgian creations (The Royal Crescent, The Circus and Queen Square) of John Wood the elder and John Wood junior. Who were both formidable architects of their day and whose legacy has helped to make Bath one of the most attractive and visited cities in the country.
The location is vibrant and interesting with so much available right on the doorstep. From award winning restaurants, museums, luxurious hotel and spa, galleries and a pretty pedestrianised street, Margaret’s Buildings, which is full of boutique shops and cafés. The whole borders the many acres and open space of the beautiful Royal Victoria Park.
Bath is a very cosmopolitan city. It caters for all: Tourists, academics, the arts, those in the media, sports enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and retirees. It has easy access for travelling with communications close by that lead worldwide. It has arguably some of the best education, recreation, culture and sports facilities in the country. It is a city that communicates first-hand with London yet retains a very close and local community. It’s a great place to call home.
