More than just a grand piece of land, experience almost 100 acres of rich history. Idyllic level pastures bordered by majestic woods and dotted with regal barns standing as tributes to North Carolina farming are being offered for first time by this prominent, storied Orange County family. The farm was once home to Dr. Henry Walton Moore, who was affectionately called "Jack" by his family and respectfully known as "Doc Moore" by many others whose lives he touched with long-lasting impressions. After graduating Emory in Atlanta and becoming a dentist, the good doctor found his way back to Hillsborough in 1949 to open his practice above Hayes Drug Store. It was his honor to provide dental care to his community and underserved extensive surrounding area. Some 57 years later Dr. Moore proudly declared upon retirement that he used to get a dollar for an extraction, filling, and cleaning, and had pulled more teeth than any living dentist in North Carolina. Everyone knew who Doc Moore was, not only for his much needed dentistry and help, but also for all the contributions he made to the community. Dr. Moore introduced Hillsborugh to the notion of fluoride in the water for better dental health and saw the project through to fluoridate the water. The farm just north of Hillsborough was always treasured by Dr. Moore as his birthplace and by his family through the generations before and after him. There still stands the old house once occupied by those who lived on and loved the land. The house is not habitable today but is still inhabited by the memories of those who had the opportunity to experience life within its walls. The farm is currently roamed by cows to take advantage of the level land and lush green grass and ponds. The land stretches about half mile along NC Highway 86. Reminder of the good times shared during the many gatherings held along the shady meadows, is a pavillion for outdoor cooking and picnicking. It was so important to the family to host good times on the farm flavored with southern hospitality, that electricity was furnished to the structures. Whether the next owner fortunate enough to have this country paradise has dreams and plans for the land to include raising cows, goats, or anything that likes to graze, a bit of crop farming, or simply pausing to refresh and recharge while inhaling the fresh air under the Carolina blue skies, or simply for enjoyment of the serenity, building a dream home or developing a new neighborhood, whatever inspirations might suggest, this is the perfect place to make it happen.
