Gamboa is a walkable community surrounded by exuberant vegetation. Its limits are defined by the flow of the Chagres River, the Panama Canal and the dense jungle of the Soberania National Park. Gamboa is located a short distance of 25 km outside of Panama City, but it feels like a small oasis where the historic architecture of the Canal Zone and the green spaces have been preserved, offering a truly unique living experience.
The home features an environment-friendly design constructed in concrete and plantation teak louvered walls. Oversized eves shade the sun and the louvered walls and large screen doors direct the airflow of prevailing breezes that cool the house. The open layout of the house permits an inside-outside approach to living with nature, that accentuates the sounds, smells and views of the surrounding tropical forest and Panama Canal.
The house has 500 m2 of construction, 1,235 m2 of land, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, guest bathroom, maid's room and bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, large terraces on both sides of the house, swimming pool, Japanese bath and room for games and entertainment.
The house has three levels: On the first level there is a hall with closets that serves as an antechamber to the games room and the three auxiliary bedrooms with bay windows overlooking the interior garden, in the entertainment room there is a pool table and fully furnished, two bathrooms with industrial system in the toilets, tub and separate shower, in the middle of the two bathrooms an envelope with three sinks. In the outdoor area there is a central patio, ping pong table and foosball table.
On the second floor is the pool, Japanese bath, large terrace that connects to the kitchen with marble top, living room, dining room, cozy bar and a guest bathroom. When climbing the wooden staircase to the third floor, we find the master bedroom, with bathroom with double sinks, double shower, toilet with industrial system and walk in closet, additionally this bedroom has a lovely balcony overlooking Gamboa.
The house is the result of a unique architectural design, original architect Patrick Dillon, founder of Ensitu Panama. and combines the residential typologies of the Canal Zone with a new architecture to create a unique space, designed with the natural attributes of Gamboa in mind.
The house is constructed of sustainably harvested plantation hardwoods from Colombia in addition to up-cycled timbers salvaged from demolished Canal Zone homes. The louvered walls were built in Medellín, Colombia and then shipped and installed with the concrete frame of the house.
