A long time ago, when the Elbchaussee used to be a simple sand trail, the business man, Oscar Vorwerk followed his vision of building a grand and lavish country house, right here on the grounds of Nr. 151. Since he didn’t want it to be just any country house he hired the highly viewed architect Ernst Paul Dorn. The façade was constructed out of yellow-bricks, which were imported from England. The rooms were panelled with oak wood and even the original tiles in the staff kitchen and the sunroom are still showing the builder’s extraordinary taste. Antic door knobs, stucco or the wrought-iron window grills are also well preserved. Just alone the ground floor is a dream consisting of multiple merging rooms with airy ceilings over four meters high. The astonishing view over the Elbe or in the paradise-like yard, can be enjoyed from almost every room through the perfectly and thought-through positioned windows. The antic fireplace is decorated with hand-made, east-Frisian magenta tiles from the 18th century.
