Your own estate and villa just outside Amsterdam
On a shady bend in the Angstel, the river that connects the Amstel with the Vecht, lies the centuries-old estate of Donkervliet. The monumental villa is situated on a hectare of park and garden and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful houses in the area. Back in 1734, Maria de Neufville called it ‘a nice hangout': an affectionate understatement that many proud owners have continued to use over the centuries. And indeed, at less than 20 minutes from Amsterdam and Schiphol, life is good in the privacy and tranquillity of the countryside but still so close to everything that makes life pleasurable.
The villa was built in 1890 on the foundations of the old Donkervliet estate, dating back to 1640. Only the cellars and the monumental gate still remind us of that time. Around 2000 the house was thoroughly renovated and restored to its original grandeur. There is a large outbuilding which, in addition to a good-sized sauna, also houses a squash and sports hall. Of course there is a shed to store all the tools to maintain the large garden and pond. There is a facility for the boat at the river, while the friendship flag flutters on the pole on the platform.
The current residents have transformed the estate into the hospitable country estate it used to be. The building has been restored to its original state with care and affection.
