A country estate with rich history



The house dates from about 1720. Already on July 7, 1628 the estate was mentioned in a deed of sale estate of Joan Huydecoper, (then mayor Amsterdam and Lord of Maarsseveen). The estate was called "Den Oever" and was in 1751 renamed “Vechtoever”. By the end of the 18th century belongs “Vechtoever” was owned by L.G. Dommer. He wanted to build an in-house chapel, he had to ask permission of the Pope. In 1797 he gets this permission and he has the chapel build. Probably it was located in the room to the right of the entrance, because of the stucco in the ceiling: two hearts and four crowns of thorns are recognizable. A major occupant was Maria Dommer. She lived at ”Vechtoever” after the death of her parents until 1840. She was concerned about the fate of others and bought the opposite estate “Endelhoven” for the care of elderly women. Also Vechtoever got such use. From 1911 to 1986 the estate was used as an institute for the White Cross and Foundation A.G.O. Since 1986, home and garden were extensively restored and made suitable for private residence. Estate “Vechtoever” is an extraordinary (family) property, in good condition and maintenance. The main entrance is located on the Diependaalsedijk, there is also an entrance directly river Vecht (with private dock). The estate is located in the center of the town Maarssen and is part of the green belt in the heart Maarssen together with the estates “Goudestein” and “Doorneburgh”.





The "Grand House"



This extraordinary (family) property, with a living area 1,000 m², is in good condition and has a entrance on both the Diependaalsedijk as directly on the river “Vecht” (with a private dock). Surroundings



In the 17th century, the gardens and the park of “Vechtoever” were, as of now, a paradise. in this period however the the gardens had a more formal structure with, among other many straight shaped and boxwood hedges. Around 1800, the English landscape style was introduced in The Netherlands and the garden was in accordance with this style adjusted. There was a large pond dug and natural, meandering waterways laid out. In 1989, based on the rehabilitation plan by landscape architect Ir. D. Haver Droeze, gardens, ponds and park were extensively restored. On the estate are several sheds, barn for garden tools, storage shed and various barns for the storage of chopped wood. The build of a car park/ garage is possible. The surface of the sheds is equal to total of approximately 100 m2. The aviary has 3 separated indoor and 3 separated outdoor areas and offers accommodate various types of (exotic) birds. The chickens have their own housing and also a large outdoor area situated next to the aviary. A rich diversity of trees, shrubs, ground cover plants and perennial plants attracts a wide variety of birds: tawny owl, kingfisher, green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, wren, song thrush, long-tailed tit, green finch, blue heron, buzzard, and hawks.





Teadome, conservatory and gardens



The estate also includes a tea dome, an consevatory with barns and 1 hectare of park and gardens. This addition is an independent estate under Dutch law and is located on the Diependaalsedijk 33A. The tea dome is one of the finest domes of the Vecht and dates from 1760. Built in classical style it is more a tea temple than a tea dome. The dome is supported by 6 columns in Corinthian style. Furthermore, the dome is decorated with six sculpted masks which are successively suggest: spring, summer, autumn, winter, the sun and the moon. From the tea dome there are beautiful views on the river “Vecht “and the flower gardens. The tea dome was completely restored in 1987-1988. The Orangery has, a large living room, master bedroom, kitchen, utility room, 2 bathrooms. On the first floor 3 bedrooms. The living area is spacious with 160 m2. In addition to residential use, office or gallery purposes are thinkable.
