Right behind the stately front door, you feel that this beautiful merchant house from 1730 houses centuries of history. The house is divided into front house and back house. It was customary in the seventeenth and eighteenth century to construct a second, extra house by the canal behind a house, usually positioned transverse. This also occurred with this house and both houses are connected to each other through a beautiful stairway. The centrally situated light court ensures the inflow of daylight in the middle of the building.



On the main floor you arrive through the hall in the spacious office at the front of the building. Situated slightly lower in the back house is the large family kitchen, directly by the large sunny garden with two colossal chestnut trees. The story goes that in the war, the first illegal issues of Parool were printed here. The modern kitchen features two cooking islands and includes all the built-in appliances one could wish for. There is a passage to the basement with the scullery and, at the front, an apartment in its own right with bathroom and kitchen. This apartment has an own entrance from the street side and that makes it especially suitable for a residing nanny or as guest accommodation.

On the main floor of the back house, where the representative ‘sael’ (large lounge room) used to be situated, is now the enormous living room. An oak parquet floor, the truly gorgeous carved ceiling, the large windows to the garden with the indoor roller shutters and an excellently functioning fireplace (which is quite unique in this type of buildings), is what makes this space truly special.

On the first floor, at the front of the building, with a view of the canal, is situated across the entire width the large master bedroom with dressing room and separate bathroom.



A little higher, once more in the back house, two nice nurseries have been created, which feature an own bathroom with two rainfall showers. A little higher again, back in the front house, there are another two nurseries. Above this is an attic with another bedroom.

The attic of the back house has been rebuilt into a fully-fledged cinema-theatre space. Behind the stage are another shower and toilet space, so for those who do not love film or theatre, they could consider to transform this into another bedroom. Above this room, there is a large storage attic.
