Location:
The ranch is located northwest of the popular Corona ranching community. The ranch poses gentle terrain with fascinating mountain views due to its proximity to the northwestern slopes of the Gillinas Mountain. The ranch is located predominantly in Torrance County, immediately adjacent to Lincoln County.
The Gran Quivira is a breeze to travel to. It is only 113 miles southeast of Albuquerque and approximately 120 miles south of Santa Fe. Albuquerque is home to an international airport, major medical centers, shopping, entertainment and restaurants.
Access:
The ranch benefits from ease of access due to the paved state highway frontage. The location of the ranch allows for multiple points of egress on county maintained roads and convenient travel to nearby communities. The ranch roads are hard packed and conveniently placed throughout the ranch.
Acreage and Capacity:
The ranch is contiguous and includes approximately 17,920 acres of deeded land and approximately 1,240 acres of New Mexico state lease land. With the ranch being predominantly deeded, there is management discretion as to the carrying capacity. The owners rate the ranch at approximately 13 cows per section or three hundred and eighty-nine (389) head.
Terrain:
Elevations on the ranch range from approximately 6,400 ft. to 6,600 ft. The ranch presents scenic panoramic views of the Mansano Mountains and the Gillinas Mountain. Cedar trees decorate the rolling grassy hills. The ranch is easily traveled by vehicle with smooth roads and trails or by horseback with good ground and visibility.
Soils, Vegetation, Climate:
The soils on the ranch include, but are not limited to fine sandy loam, sandy loam, Otero and Palma soils. The ranch has an abundance of varying gramma grasses, multiple browse plants, and is speckled with cedar and pinon. The area rainfall averages approximately 14 inches per year according to NOAA.
Water:
The ranch is particularly well watered. There is a total of eight (8) wells. The windmills are aesthetically pleasing, but no longer must be serviced. There are five (5) solar powered wells and three (3) electric submersible wells. The depths of the wells range from three hundred eighty (380) feet to seven hundred fifteen (715) feet. There are multiple storage tanks located throughout the ranch.
Wells, drinkers, and storage tanks are connected by underground pipeline. The floats for the troughs have been installed in secondary containments to prevent unwanted maintenance caused by livestock and the troughs have bird ramps. The valve boxes are conveniently located. Four of the steel-rim storage tanks have been relined with fiberglass. There are over 25 drinkers placed throughout the ranch providing adequate water for both livestock and wildlife.
Hunting/Recreation:
Hunting throughout this region of New Mexico is remarkable. The ranch is located outside of the core area and currently receives one (1) bull elk permits and two (2) cow elk tags, three (3) antelope permits and allows for deer hunting. The quantity of elk permits issued by the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is governed by a Special Management Plan.
Headquarters Facilities:
The ranch headquarters is centered between the eastern and western boundaries. The primary residence, bunkhouse, shop, rock workshop, impressive handling pens, barn, enclosed horse stables, tack storage, feed storage, chicken coup, and feed storage are located at the headquarters. There are multiple traps immediately adjacent to the headquarters for ease of working cattle.
Primary Residence and Bunkhouse:
The primary residence at the headquarters was recently remodeled and contains approximately three thousand (3000) square feet. The renovations were completed in a fashion that preserved the charm of the original construction while incorporating modern ranch style trends.
The exterior of the primary residence and shop building were recently upgraded with new stone veneer, stucco, and quality metal roofing. The primary residence offers panoramic views and plenty of natural light. The pens are large, the alleys are well-positioned and each custom gate has latches accessible by horseback. Cedar stays surrounding the perimeter of the pens provide for a nice touch. The scales are certified and easy to operate. Prepare to enjoy working you cattle under a large shade structure with a first-class alley system and hydraulic chute. Ship cattle by truck and trailer or by the semi-load directly from your pens with combination of load-out options. There are troughs located throughout the pens. There on are two frost-fee troughs to ensure water for your livestock on a cold day.
The covered horse stables are oversized to allow workspace for a calving stall or to work cattle in a sheltered area. There is also an abundance of horse hay storage. The fenced pen nearest the horse stables is large enough to utilize as an arena as depicted by the barrels and poles currently setup.
There is a sea container that serves as a weatherproof tack storage under cover of the horse stable structure. There are two additional railcars that can be used for dry storage of feed. The two-story horse barn takes you back in time with wooden stalls, a tack room, and overhead feed storage.

Other Facilities:
