Kennet House
Kennet House is an outstanding village house, Grade II * Listed and believed to date from 1700. The house is mentioned in Pevsner’s Buildings of England and is thought to have been built by Dr Kennet, a Lord Mayor of London and Bishop of Oxford. At some point in its history, the house was used as a school for young ladies before becoming a racehorse training establishment when the main house was divided into two separate dwellings. Restored and improved about 10 years ago, Kennet House now offers extensive accommodation. On the ground floor, rooms are arranged around an elegant central reception hall with a handsome staircase. The principal reception rooms are well proportioned and there is a delightful morning room adjoining the kitchen/breakfast room. Below the morning room are cellars housing a laundry area and below the entrance hall and sitting room there is a separate cool basement/hobbies room suitable for storing wine.
On the first floor there are four double bedrooms and four bath/shower rooms. The master bedroom has a dressing room and en suite bathroom and Bedroom three has an en suite shower room. Large landings add to the feeling of light and space. On the second floor there are three further bedrooms and a wash room (plumbed for full bathroom) which can also be accessed from the secondary staircase.
The Cottage
The cottage is a Grade II Listed property converted from a former coach house, situated to the west of the main house. On the ground floor there is a large sitting/dining room with excellent ceiling height and a smartly presented kitchen/breakfast room. Upstairs is the main bedroom suite with dressing room and bathroom and a further double bedroom with bathroom.
The Cottage is completely self-contained and has its services separately metered. Previously the cottage has been rented providing useful income.
The Studio Apartment
The studio is situated on the first floor above the games room and has its own access. It comprises a large open plan living area with a kitchenette and bathroom.
The house is approached by a gravel drive leading to a smart courtyard for parking. There is a brick built garage for three cars.
The south facing walled garden lies to the rear of the property and is laid to lawn with well stocked borders, shrubs and trees. Mature boundaries provide excellent private space. On the south side there is a paved terrace accessed from the back lobby and garden room.
