We are pleased to present one of Malmo’s oldest single-family homes
Located in the exclusive Fridhem neighbourhood in western Malmo, close to the city centre, as well as to beaches and recreational areas. The house was built in 1867, and originally included large areas, which today consist of 2-3 blocks of private homes. Since 1956, the house has been owned by the same family, and is currently fully modernized after extensive renovations, particularly in 1956, 1991, 1993 and 2011-2012. All these renovations are well-documented. The lovely neighbourhood Fridhems villastad is located along Oresund Sound in western Malmo, five minutes from the centre of Malmo, and within walking distance to Ribersborg Beach, Malmö’s own Copacabana, a recreational area with a long sandy beach that offers sunshine, bathing and wonderful long strolls along the sea, as well as a beautiful park with a selection of restaurants. Golfers will enjoy a big modern training centre offering practice in every aspect of the sport.
The house comprises three floors with a total living area of 555 m2, as well as a cellar area of about 95 m2. The beautiful, park-like grounds total 2,748 m2, and also include a fully modernized 110 m2 annex. The entrance hall has a lovely limestone floor, a large guest lavatory, and mahogany wardrobes. Next comes a large hall that leads to the living room, dining room and kitchen, as well as to a magnificent Swedish oak stairway to the second floor. All the doors are an impressive 2.5 metres tall, and made of Siberian oak. The enormous living room is 70 m2, and located along the width of the house, with windows facing north and south. The character of this room is further enhanced by the beautiful pillars and oiled oak rod parquet floors. We can find the same flooring in the dining room, which features beautiful murals painted by the artist Sven-Ivar Eriksson. The entire ground floor has the stucco decorations of the period of construction, recreated by master stucco artist Hans Räthel of Berlin. The kitchen, located in the western part of the house, is spacious and has a large dining area facing the south side of the garden, as well as a door out to a terrace. Whitewashed oak cabinetry by Siematic, and appliances by Gaggenau and Smeg. Next to the kitchen is a small room, as well as a large scullery that’s accessible from the service entrance. The second floor has a large, furnishable hall with a fireplace. Following this hall, you enter a large living room that leads to a beautiful library. Off the hall is an attractive bathroom with a shower. Here you’ll find Villeroy and Boch tiles from 1867, removed during a renovation, and then reattached. The other part of the second floor includes a master bedroom with access to a large balcony facing south, an en suite bathroom decorated with green Swedish granite and marble, a Jacuzzi tub, a separate shower, as well as double hand basins, and Hans Grohe mixers throughout. The bedroom also has two walk-in closets (cherry wood for her and mahogany for him). Next to the bedroom, there is a mini-gym in the turret room. The third floor contains four large bedrooms, as well as a shower room and storage space. From here you can also take the staircase to the upper turret room and roof, where you can enjoy an amazing view of Fridhem and parts of western Malmo. The cellar is about 95 m2, and includes a large laundry room, drying room, storage area, machine room for heating, and a wine cellar. All the interior renovation was done in 1993-1994, at which time the house was restored to its original condition. In 2011-2012, the exterior underwent a total renovation, which included the roof framework, roofing, platework, facade, cornices, stucco decorations, chimneys, new triple-pane windows, removal and reconstruction of the top turret level, draining, as well as the installation of two Nibe air-water heating pumps.
