Micro-apartment in a Neukölln hot spot, designed by Eicke Becker
A modern new apartment building designed by celebrated architect Eike Becker is under development at Flughafenstrasse 72-74 in one of Berlin\'s hippest quarters in the popular district of Neukölln. Consisting of six full storeys and meeting the KfW-70 green standard, the building will deliver 69 residential units of various sizes. The majority of them will be micro-apartments built to contemporary specifications. The floor plans of the 55 studio flats will have an efficient lay-out and a footprint between around 19 sqm and 23 sqm. The 14 larger flats of 2 to 4 bedrooms range from around 44 to 106 square metres in size. The ground floor is to be developed into handicap-accessible residential units and two commercial units. Ready-made parquet floors or high-spec design flooring of composite timber in the living areas, underfloor heating and floor-to-ceiling windows will create a cosy feel-good ambience. Amenities will include modern fitted kitchens complete with electric appliances in the 1- and 2-bedroom flats, bathrooms with high-end sanitary fixtures and fittings, and a video intercom system in the hallway. More than half of the flats will come with a balcony each, while the ground-floor flats will have patios on the garden side. All floors are conveniently accessed via the indoor passenger lift. In the basement, residents will be allocated one private cubicle per flat, and have the use of communal laundry and drying facilities, a bicycle storage room and a buggy park. On top of the building, it is planned to add a solar array and a small roof terrace for one of the flats on the 5th floor.
